A Beginner's Guide
Here is a basic guide to playing and enjoying Pétanque.
A Friendly Welcome
Heckmondwike Pétanque Club welcome and encourage new members of all abilities from experienced players to those who have never thrown a boule before.
If you want to take up the game then we invite you to come and play a session with us. We’ll bring you up to speed with the basic rules and we can even lend you some boules for the game.
If you decide you’d like to continue with the sport then you can join our club for a yearly membership of £20. That includes tea and coffee for the year too!
Our members will even give you advice on where you can get your own boules and jacks from and we provide hoops and scorers for our social games. It really is a low cost entry level sport so you don’t have to spend lots of money to decide if it is the game for you.
We think you’ll get the bug. We’ve seen new members go from complete novices to keen players who go on to play in club events, regional games and even represent the county in national tournaments.
But all of that is for later in your journey. For now, come and see us on a Wednesday at 1pm or Saturday at 10am and get started with a fantastic sport at our friendly and welcoming club.
